Negril, Westmoreland, Jamaica

The Franciscan presence in Negril builds relationships and inspires hope in poverty-stricken communities where resources are scarce, and struggles are great.

Being present at the Mary Gate of Heaven Church and Friary includes serving free breakfast and lunch at St. Anthony’s Kitchen, which feeds over 200 guests every Monday-Friday—people who are hungry, homeless, suffering from mental health issues or drug addictions, unemployed or struggling to survive on minimum wage.

Being present inspired the purchase of a 29-passenger bus that is now central to the Get Kids to School program, which provides students who weren’t going to school due to the costs of uniforms, books, and taxi fare, with free school supplies and roundtrip transportation to school.

The Get Kids to School Plus program gives older students the opportunity to pursue life-changing education at local universities and courses that teach indispensable skills like nursing.

Being present saves lives at the Revival Health Clinic, where a licensed doctor and nurse perform wellness checks, cancer screenings, eye exams, wound care, blood pressure and glucose tests, and diabetes assessments.

Being present is currently building the future Revival Catholic Pre-School, where for the first time, area children ages 3-6 years old will receive the essential foundations for social, emotional, and cognitive development.

The friars can’t sustain these life-changing and life-saving programs in Jamaica without the support of generous donors.

Please, will you help us help them?
