The Franciscan friars accompany all who feel marginalized, no matter their sexual orientation or gender identity. If you are a member of the LGBTQ+ community and feel excluded from mainstream society, face discrimination, stigma, and prejudice based on your sexual orientation, gender identity, or both, please know you can always come to our ministries for spiritual care and comfort.
The Franciscan friars are proud to stand, walk, and journey with you on the road you’ve been called to travel.

If you are a member of the LGBTQ+ community and are feeling the negative effects of marginalization, such as mental health issues, discrimination, and lower levels of general well-being, please know you can always come to our ministries for spiritual counsel and connections to helpful resources.
Always remember that your identity is a gift from God — it’d be a shame not to open it.
“I think that sexual identity is something we’ve been gifted with,” shares Br. George, a Franciscan friar. “Even though the culture in our society doesn’t always treat us that way, it’s still something that comes from God. And it aligns with another Franciscan theme that’s very important to me and many others: building bridges. Building bridges with the poor and marginalized, erring on the side of inclusion versus putting someone down just because we don’t understand, or they make us feel uncomfortable.”
